Microwave Repair

Who knows how exactly it happened. It could have been something inside the microwave (that maybe should not have been), it could have been your kid throwing a baseball in the house, or it could have just been from wear over time. However, regardless of the reason, your microwave door now has a crack on it. Obviously, this can be a concern. The last thing you want is radiation leaking from the inside of your microwave out into your home. However, a crack may not be as serious as you think.

In truth, it all depends on what exactly is cracked on the microwave door as well as how deep it is. If there is a small crack in the glass itself, then you can still use your microwave. The glass on the door is mostly for cosmetic purposes and doesn’t play a huge part in the function. What really protects you is the metal mesh or screen that is behind the glass. If that is damaged, then you have a problem. You will also have a problem if the mesh is sandwiched inside the glass.

If the metal mesh is damaged or you just want to be safe rather than sorry, you may be able to find a replacement door for your microwave. However, depending on the cost and model of your microwave, it may be both cheaper and less of a hassle to buy a new microwave. However, if you can find a replacement door for your model it is one of the easier repairs you can make to a microwave.
